UC Davis Students Silently Protest Chancellor Linda Katehi [VIDEO]
Yesterday, UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi attended a press conference to discuss thepepper spraying of a group of passive students
. After a long delay, Katehi eventually left the building where the press conference was being held and was confronted by an unknown number of silent students sitting cross-legged--just like their peers who were pepper sprayed the day before. Watch the eerie protest above.
Via Lee Fang's blog The Second Alarm comes this account of last night's wordless protest:
After some initial confusion, UC Chancellor Linda Katehi refused to leave the building, attempting to give the media the impression that the students were somehow holding her hostage.
A group of highly organized students formed a large gap for the chancellor to leave. They chanted "we are peaceful" and "just walk home," but nothing changed for several hours. Eventually student representatives convinced the chancellor to leave after telling their fellow students to sit down and lock arms (around 7:00pm).
In a phone interview with CNN, Katehi said she found the actions of the police officers to be "unacceptable." She also firmly stated that she did not plan to resign, despite calls from both students and professors to do so.
