Vena Cava Invent Cabin Chic; the Fiery Furnaces' Eleanor Friedberger and Au Revoir Simone's Heather D'Angelo Are Fans
Sometimes we wonder if it's a good idea for designers to explain their inspiration on the show program. Case in point: At Vena Cava, the stylish line by Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, the program said that the Fall 2010 collection was for "the Vena Cava woman to wear in her cabin upstate." This immediately made us think wooly flannels, fun plaids, heavy boots. But apparently the Vena Cava woman does not relax in the mountains like the rest of us.
Ready for that nature hike!
Instead, what came down the runway at Milk Studios, to the sounds of SoCal's all-lady rock band The Like, was the kind of beautiful, sophisticated collection we've come to expect from the young design duo. Highlights included a gossamer chiffon gown in a skeleton print, a delicate silk halter top with silver bolo ties, and a grey floor-length charmeuse gown with overall closures. And what else does the VC woman wear to the mountains? Fishnets, long ponytails with streaks of hot pinks and purples, and bright red-orange lipstick! Which we'll presume are looks that front-row audience members Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces and Heather D'Angelo of Au Revoir Simone could get behind.
