Victim in Queens anti-gay bias attack speaks out
Price says he doesn't remember much of the attack, but does remember his attackers, who he recognized from the neighborhood, saying that they know where he lives, calling him what the News describes as "stupid f-----" and "dumb f-----" in spanish, and threatening to kill him.
Daniel Rodriguez, 21, and Daniel Aleman, 26, who were caught on a neighborhood surveillance camera repeatedly attacking Price, have been charged with felony assault as a hate crime (the video, which is incredibly hard to watch, is here). Price told the News "I hope they rot in jail. I don't understand how someone can do this to somebody. They almost killed another human being."
The suspects and their families have done a disastrous job on defense, with Rodriguez' sister suggesting that he'll "man up," Rodriguez himself suggesting that Price brought the beating and the theft of his wallet on himself by writing "gay graffiti" around the neighborhood, and Aleman saying that he just took a "couple of cheap shots on the white guy."
Daniel Rodriguez Sr, the suspect's father, said he, not his son, was at fault for Price's injuries: "I caused him the harm the minute I stopped being a father to my son. I hurt him." Price's family says that Rodriguez Sr. is forgiven.
