Victim in Sunday's Attempted East Village Rape Speaks
Yesterday we posted the video of a man suspected in the attempted rape of a 27-year-old East Village woman. The victim has told the New York Post her side of the story : She fought off the man, screaming, cursing, and kicking, after he followed her into her building on First Avenue at around 3 a.m. on Sunday, upon her return from a party in Brooklyn.
The perp, who appeared to be in his late 20s and wearing a hooded jacket over a shirt, waited until she'd entered, then peered in to watch her go through the vestibule before he opened the first door himself.
"It must not have slammed behind me," she said of the doors.
When she started kicking and screaming, the would-be attacker fled, and the woman called 911. The police are asking anyone who has seen or recognizes the man in the video above to call NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline, (800) 577-TIPS.
Update: A suspect, Imre Meszesan, 35, has been arrested and charged with attempted rape and burglary after being picked out of a lineup by the victim, Jane Callanan, reports the Post.
