VisualFriend.com (with Visual Benefits) Makes iPhone Dating as Creepy as It Is Portable
Pre-dating (dating foreplay, if you prefer) is becoming more personal than ever. Now that the iPhone 4 has video capability, early-adopting tech nerds are already using it to date online via VisualFriend.com, "the newest free online dating service that brings singles, FaceTime, and your iPhone 4 all together in one fantastic, engaging place," according to the program's site.
With VisualFriend, iPhone users can connect through phone-to-phone videos in a "curated version of Chatroulette," as Fast Company describes it. If users like what they see, they can take it to the next level, and exchange numbers, which seems almost like a step backward from phone video chatting.
At its most despicable (and it's not always despicable), this is a "show me yours, I'll show you mine" version of a dating site. Have you seen what people do on Chatroulette? Now, imagine them interacting on a site with the tagline, "Flirt on your phone." We're sure it's only a matter of time before someone links this to the bump application so customers can literally bump uglies -- though that might spread some sort of digital virus.
With technological advancements like this on their side, it's no wonder iPhone users have more sex than the rest of us! But quantity doesn't mean quality -- Fast Company reported that there has been a boom in Craigslist job offers for video-sex workers, and speculated that digital sex workers will become a bigger phenomenon because of video-based iPhone apps like Visual Friend. Hey, is that an iPhone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
