Voice Choice: The Miracle Show and the Death of Optimism
Choreographers Shannon Gillen and Elisabeth Motley love cracking jokes. The duo pours as much humor into their works as they do their modern-dance training. As a part of this year’s outdoor “SiteLines” series, Gillen, originally from Maryland, and Motley, whose roots rest in Virginia, premiere their latest site-specific piece, The Miracle Show and the Death of Optimism. They enact a satirical funeral with all the fixin’s—memorial attendees and woeful song included—in loving memory of our dear friend Optimism.
