Voice's Gun Dealer Back Home, Fights Against Bloomberg, for Bob Barr
Last June, the Voice profiled a Georgia gun dealer who was being sued by Mayor Bloomberg for selling guns that got used in New York crimes. Jay Wallace, owner of Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, flew up to New York City for the first time ever and dug in to fight the “billionaire bully" to "his last breath" (and kind of fell in love with the city and its people, if not its Mayor).
Today Wallace -- who has returned to Georgia, where his suit is now being tried-- has caught election fever, and is helping to get out the vote. For President he's backing his lawyer, former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr, who is running on the Libertarian Party ticket.
Anyone who shows up to Adventure Outdoors wearing an “I voted in Georgia” sticker can enter to win a free firearm. (Bloomberg would be pleased to know entrants have to show valid ID and pass an instant federal background check first.)
Five finalists will have a shot at winning a Remington Model 597 semi-automatic or a Glock 9 mm semi-automatic in a raffle next weekend. Reached by phone on Friday morning, Wallace was driving to the polls, “I think it’s a good thing that businesses get involved in getting out the vote," he said. "It’s our civic responsibility. A lot of people have died to help our freedom to vote.
"And, he adds cheerfully, "it’s different from Acorn!”
