Weiner: House Bill Could Give NY 2,100 New Cops
If Anthony Weiner does decide to get back in the Mayor's race, he'll have something to brag on besides standing up for Jewish Jets fans: his bill to reauthorize the federal Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program just passed in the House. If it gets through the Senate unscathed, Weiner says in a release that it will add 2,100 75-percent-federally-funded officers to the NYPD. That's 2,098 more cops than they're get in Gig Harbor, Florida, and certainly many more than we'd have otherwise, as the Department has been planning to cut cops and recruits. Herb Kohl and Dianne Feinstein are sponsoring the Senate version.
