Woman Assaulted in Midtown Bar Bathroom
A 30-year-old Connecticut nurse was beaten and possibly raped in a midtown bar's bathroom early Thursday morning, police report, after turning down a guy's offer to dance.
Investigators are looking into the attack, where the nurse was partying among friends at Social Bar on Eighth Avenue near 48th Street around 2:30am. She was asked to dance by a fellow male patron, but turned him down, police say.
When she later went to use the second floor women's bathroom, her rejected suitor allegedly followed her and attacked her in the stall. From the attack, the woman incurred a broken eye socket and a broken nose. She might possibly have a fractured skull as well.
Reports say investigators believe the woman might have been raped as well, because she was found with her pants partially removed when she discovered by a friend who had gone looking for her. The woman entered surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center Thursday morning, and had not yet been tested for signs of sexual assault.
Representatives from Social Bar couldn't be reached for comment.
