Yet Another Woman Was Attacked in Park Slope On Wednesday Night
We've received a tip from a reader that another woman was attacked in Park Slope last night. The reader got an email from Community Board 7 that describes an assault that happened at 9:15 p.m. on Prospect Avenue between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue. The victim, a woman in her 20s, was walking east on Prospect Avenue from the R train station when a man came up behind her and groped her breasts, subsequently fleeing when she screamed. The NYPD just confirmed the attack to the Voice, adding that the incident actually went down at around 9:05 p.m.
The description of the suspect matches the descriptions of at least one of the other suspect(s) in the string of sexual attacks that have happened in south Brooklyn since March: a Hispanic male, approximately 5'7" with a thin build. He was wearing a dark shirt, baggy dark jeans and a baseball hat. The police said they "couldn't confirm it yet" that this is one of the same guys they've been looking for.
Community Board 7 District Manager Jeremy Laufer confirmed that the attack had been reported by the NYPD's 72nd precinct to the board, and said that "the description [of the perp] that the precinct captain sent read as a similar description" to those we've already seen. He added that CB7 is putting together another safety meeting for next Tuesday.
There have now been, at our count, 10 sexual assaults (including Wednesday morning's incident on the F train) and one rape in the area since March.
Erica at FiPS has some reader accounts:
I thought you might want to alert the community: There was another sexual assault this evening in Park Slope, on Prospect Avenue between 4th and 5th avenues. I was walking home from the R train at Prospect Avenue around 10:15 pm. I came out of the train and there was a cop car and several detectives outside talking in a serious-looking manner. I saw two girls in the back of the cop car. Then a news crew came up behind them. There were detectives going door to door on Prospect Avenue to see if anyone witnessed the crime. I talked to one of the detectives and they said they believe it is the same perpetrator or same in the string of perps. Same story--guy came up behind the woman and attacked her. She was screaming so loud the neighbors came outside to see what was going on, and the guy fled.
Police sketches of the suspects in the series of attacks (we could be dealing with as many as three different perpetrators):
