26 Meals Cooks Through an Alphabet of New York Cuisines
At 5:30 on a Monday evening, one's thoughts naturally turn to going home, or, failing that, procrastination. Which is why we're happy to have been tipped off to 26 Meals, a blog chronicling the attempts of two New Yorkers to cook their way through many of the cuisines New York has to offer, from A through Z.
To buy their ingredients, the pair explore a "global backyard of ethnic neighborhoods where we find ingredients and also better understand the diverse landscape of the city." So far, they've cooked their way through D (Dominican Republic), which involved fried mofongo and habichuelas con dulce. It's sort of Chowhound meets Not Eating Out in New York with a little bit of No Reservations thrown in, and it's a refreshing change of pace: For once, people are blogging about trying to replicate the diversity of the city's cuisine in their own home, instead of just reporting back from the restaurants that serve it.
