Today we're giving James Oseland the Bawbawa Walters treatment, asking him our Four Questions not About Food. Oseland is the editor-in-chief of Saveur magazine and the author of the wonderful book Cradle of Flavor: Home Cooking from the Spice Islands of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

What was the last book you read?

The Winona LaDuke Reader (I'm moderating a panel she's on at Slow Food Nation in San Francisco next week).

What animal would you like to be reincarnated as, and why?

My cat Peteā€”from street cat to gourmet eater, he's got a very comfy life.

Choose a superpower.

The power to see beyond seeing.

What did you dream about last night?

I was driving endlessly through a lush, imaginary rural Montana landscape past grand homes that once belonged to cattle barons. Strange.
