A Bourbon Talk and Dinner Cruise in This Week's Events

Dinner on a historic boat? Sounds like it's spring in NYC.
Dinner on a historic boat? Sounds like it's spring in NYC.

Do something new this April. This week, that could mean dining on an old navy boat or heading to a meatball slapdown.

Kaiseki Mondays, Brushstroke, 30 Hudson Street, Monday, 5:30 p.m.

Beginning this Monday, chef Isao Yamada will offer a special seven-course kaiseki menu, the selection of dishes for which will change each week. Look for items like custard-y chawanmushi, sashimi, and cooked meats, or order the vegetarian menu. Wine pairings will also be available for an additional charge, but you won't be able to order off of the a la carte menu. Dinner is $115 per person and reservations can be made by contacting the restaurant.

Dane Huckelbridge: Bourbon - A History and Tasting of the American Spirit, 92nd Street Y, 1395 Lexington Avenue, Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Few products feel as quintessentially American as bourbon. In this discussion, author Dane Huckelbridge will talk about the spirit's role throughout history and lead a tasting for attendees. Tickets are $32 and reservations can be made through the community center's website.

Fifth Annual Meatball Slapdown, Brooklyn Brewery, 79 North 11th Street, Brooklyn, Thursday, 7 p.m.

In a battle of the balls, guests will choose which chef's spherical snack is worthy enough to be crowned best in New York. Participants include entries from Briskettown, River Styx, and Mile End, among others. Tickets are $60 and include unlimited balls and beer.

The Water Table, Skyport Marina, East 23rd Street and FDR Drive, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

As the weather (hopefully) begins to relent, consider making a reservation for a dinner cruise aboard a historic US Navy boat. The Water Table makes its spring debut this week with its New England-inspired fixed price menu and full bar. Guests will be able to take in the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn waterfront views while enjoying dishes like peekytoe crabcakes, sausage and peppers, and potato leek soup. Sip specialty cocktails while you sail. Reservations are required.
