A Chef's Open House and Bar Food Blowout in this Week's Events

Prepping for St. Patrick's Day? While the city gets ready to paint the town green, there are plenty of other activities to occupy your time. From pasta specials to chef training programs, here's what's happening this week.
Pasta Week, Isola Trattoria and Crudo Bar, 9 Crosby Street, Monday through Saturday
If you're looking to end winter pasta season on an epic bender, this fancy SoHo spot has plenty of tasty options. Spring pea agnolotti, squid ink spaghetti with octopus, and carrot cappellacci with roasted lamb are a few of the dishes you can dine on solo or split Lady-and-the-Tramp-style as part of a tasting menu for $75. There's also a chocolate gnocchi with vanilla-basil zabaglione for dessert.
Open House, National Gourmet Institute, 48 West 21st Street, Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Pondering life in the kitchen? Or perhaps you're ready to trade in your spread sheet for a cookie sheet? This culinary school's free tour and meet-and-greet could help steer you in the right direction. The festivities include a chef's demonstration along with information on the chef training program nd public classes. Light refreshments will also be served during the event, which is expected to run until 7:30 p.m.
Bar Food Blowout, Pork Slope, 247 Fifth Avenue, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.
For $20, guests can enjoy bar food like pork sausage sliders and mushroom fondue atop celery at Finger on the Pulse's winter send-off. Enjoy bumping beats from the DJ while sipping drinks from Brooklyn Brewery and Powers Whiskey. Make a reservation to ensure you'll be able to nab a table.
Pi(e) Day, City Grit, 38 Prince Street, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
In celebration of everyone's favorite math holiday -- Pi Day -- Sarah Simmons is cooking up a selection of pies. The menu includes the chef's take on chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie, tomato pie, and lemon meringue. Tickets start at $55 and can be purchased through the City Grit website.
