An Early Taste of the Dishes of Choice Eats

Just five more days until our seventh annual Choice Eats tasting event, when more than 80 restaurants from around the city will come together under one roof at Basketball City (299 South Street). Have you purchased your tickets to feast? Your $60 general admission fare ($70 at the door) gets you unlimited food and drink this Tuesday, March 25, from 7 to 10 p.m.

In anticipation -- and to help you plan your evening -- we're previewing the dishes of Choice Eats. This is our third batch of restaurants; check out our first and second batches, too.

Larb Ubol, 480 Ninth Avenue, 212-564-1822 This Thai restaurant quickly became one of our favorites in the city. It'll serve som tum Thai (papaya salad) and larb.

Edi & The Wolf, 102 Avenue C, 212-598-1040 This Alphabet City Austrian spot will dole out dessert: Cchocolate gianduja with milk crunch, strawberries, and caramel.

Kaia Wine Bar, 1614 Third Avenue, 212-722-0490 Look here for a chicken liver parfait with a raspberry peri peri gelee, ideal for pairing with a glass of wine.

El Almacen, 557 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-218-7284 This meaty Williamsburg Argentine lair will pass out costilla de res: malbec braised short ribs.

Robicelli's, 138 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn Sink your teeth into chocolate chip cookie bars with vanilla porter caramel, pretzels, and ganache from this Brooklyn bakery.

Mooncake Foods, multiple locations This local healthy Asian comfort food chain will showcase its Shanghai dumplings with spicy garlic dipping sauce.

Pete Zaaz, 766 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-230-9229 This quirky pizzeria will forgo the pies to deal twice baked potato skins.

Zenon Taverna, 34-10 31st Avenue, Queens, 718-956-0133 Look for melitzanosalata (roasted eggplant dip with Greek feta, caper leaves, parsley, onion, and mayonnaise in a phyllo cup), vegan koupepia (stuffed grape leaves with rice, pine nuts, red peppers, and zucchini), and lamb meatballs from this Astoria Greek restaurant.

Anella, 222 Franklin Street, 718-389-8100 This Greenpointer will serve up red endive cups with smoked salmon, avocado, and creme fraiche.

The Little Prince, 199 Prince Street This SoHo French bistro will go classic with steak tartare studded with fried capers and served with grilled bread.

Peppa's Jerk Chicken, 738 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, 347-712-9341 This late-night Caribbean haunt will bring its namesake jerk chicken plus sweet dumplings and hot sauce.

Thistle Hill Tavern, 441 Seventh Avenue, Brooklyn, 347-599-1262 Park Slope's Thistle Hill will showcase chef Dale Talde's lemongrass chicken with apple slaw.

Bunker, 46-63 Metropolitan Avenue, Queens, 718-386-4282 It takes some work to get to this Ridgewood Vietnamese joint, but the food is worth the effort. Stop by its table here for long bean salad with watercress, kaffir, red onions, peanuts, and toasted coconut flakes.

Queens Comfort, 40-09 30th Avenue, Queens, 646-597-8687 This wacky Long Island City comfort food spot will serve its smoked pork 'n grits with red eye gravy.

Fay Da Bakery, multiple locations Look for a variety of treats from this bakery, including egg custard tarts, mango mochi, strawberry cake, and tapioca milk tea.

Ample Hills Creamery, 623 Vanderbilt Avenue, Brooklyn, 347-240-3926 This venerable Prospect Heights ice cream shop plans to scoop three flavors: salted crack caramel, gather 'round the campfire, and, our favorite, sweet as honey.
