An Oyster Bar and Restaurants Are Coming to Pier A
Pier A, seen a few years ago.
Although the Freedom Tower won't be getting a Windows on the World redux, its surrounding neighborhood will be getting a new oyster bar.
Per DNAinfo, Pier A, which sits at the very tip of Lower Manhattan, will be the site of an oyster bar and "upscale restaurant" from Harry Poulakakos, the entrepreneur behind such establishments as Financier Patisserie, Ulysses', Adrienne's Pizza Bar, and Harry's Italian. The oyster bar and a casual restaurant, along with a coffee shop and visitors center, will occupy the ground floor of the pier, while a more upscale restaurant and event space will be upstairs.
Pier A is a 125-year-old landmark building that had been vacant for 20 years before the Battery Park City Authority began restoring it in 2008. When it opens to the public -- most likely in 2012 -- after its $30 million renovation, it will also include an expansive public promenade and, of course, exceptional views of Brooklyn.
