And The Next Big Small Brand is Sweet Loren's

Last night the winner of the Next Big Small Brand -- the second annual contest designed to help small, local food-related companies make it to the big time -- was unveiled. (The winner receives free marketing, branding, and design services to help grow and develop its brand.) Winning both the people's choice and judges' awards was Sweet Loren's, maker of natural frozen cookie dough for busy home cooks.

Loren Brill founded Sweet Loren's to bring busy families a healthier version of frozen cookie dough, made with unprocessed ingredients. Sweet Loren's currently sells dough in four flavors, including Heavenly Chocolate Chip, Chewy Oatmeal Cranberry, Bold Espresso Chocolate Chip, and Dark Double Fudge Brownie.

Brill beat out four other contestants, including the Bombay Emerald Chutney Company, which makes chutneys in flavors like Royal Mint and Royal Pomegranate, based on old family recipes; Brooklyn Cured, which produces sausages and other charcuterie from local, sustainable farms; La Newyorkina, maker of Mexican-inspired ice pops that come in flavors like mango-chile and cucumber-lime; and candy mavens Liddabit Sweets, makers of artisanal, all-natural confections.

Entries were judged on presentation, uniqueness, marketability, and demand, while entrants were supposed to "embody the spirit of entrepreneurialism and enthusiasm for their product or concept." So congratulations, Loren. Go forth and prosper into a Big Brand! May we now see you at the Brooklyn Flea and beyond. Just don't get so big that you end up selling out.
