Another El Bulli Movie?: Lisa Abend's The Sorcerer's Apprentices to Be Adapted to the Big Screen
Ferran Adrià was in New York this afternoon to speak at an event held at NYU's King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center celebrating Spanish food and the release of Lisa Abend's book The Sorcerer's Apprentices: A Season in the Kitchen at elBulli. The book is based on the Time Spain correspondent's blog about the esteemed alumni of the elBulli apprenticeship program, which has included such New York chefs as Will Goldfarb and George Mendes.
Adrià spoke not only about the book, but about his plans for the elBulli Foundation, which the restaurant will morph into after July of this year. Carrying out his role as spokesman for Telefónica, he praised the company repeatedly for, among other things, its support of the foundation. At the end of his speech, Adrià dropped this little nugget: A film adaptation of Abend's book, he learned this very morning, got the green light. It would be the second movie about the restaurant in as many years: Cooking in Progress premiered at SXSW this month.
"It will not be a movie about elBulli," Adrià said of the forthcoming film. "But about the people who make it."
