At Tales of the Cocktail, a Funeral for the Sex on the Beach
Here lies a bad drink.
First, they killed off the Appletini, then they killed off the Redheaded Slut. This year, at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, the bartenders of the world (or at least those of this country) will say goodbye to the Sex on the Beach.
The third annual Cocktail Burial, complete with full jazz funeral procession through the streets of the French Quarter, will take place Saturday, July 24, at 11:30 p.m. The popular 1980s drink made with vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice, and cranberry juice recalls the era of Tom Cruise-style flair bartending, but it stayed popular well into the epoch of Hammer pants and is still found in certain Jersey Shore-esque enclaves now. Posthumously, the question will be: Whatever will we use peach schnapps in now?
