Back Forty Stages an Oyster Showdown. Slurpers Mark Calendar.
Wellfleets will try their damnedest.
There have been numerous East Coast-West Coast feuds: Biggie vs. Tupac, David Chang's "Fig-Gate," and now a bicoastal oyster rivalry. The country's bivalve bookends will go head to head at Alphabet City's Back Forty on November 19 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
On the right side of the ring, you'll find Charlestown, Rhode Island's finest Nini-Monos teaming up with Wellfleet, Massachusetts' Blackfish Creek oysters.
On the left? Effinghams from British Columbia, Totten Virginicus from Washington, and Olympias (known best as the cousin of oyster superstar Belon) are ready to put up a fight. This is a lopsided three-to-two two battle with the hometown underdogs down by one player.
The showdown won't air on pay-per-view, but it will be pay-per-piece. In addition to the $25 entry fee (which includes fancy passed hors d'oeuvres and unlimited craft beer and muscadet), the oysters will go for $2 a pop.
Who'll be the winner? That's for you to decide. Admission tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.
