Bev Eggleston Goes Hog Wild on First Avenue
When it comes to pig parts, Bev Eggleston is not a man to be trifled with. The Virginia pig farmer, who is a hero to the sustainable-ag movement and carnivores alike, was in town on Tuesday for Hearth's weekly pig roast -- which he supplies with its star ingredient -- when a thief tried to snatch a raw pig leg from his truck. As Grapes & Grains recounts, Eggleston gave chase down First Avenue, where the thief was quickly apprehended by the cops. Eggleston reclaimed his leg, declined to press charges, and smoked a cigarette -- and probably enjoyed this encounter with the NYPD more than his last, which culminated in a night in jail for a traffic violation.
