Bice May Close in January
Upscale Northern Italian restaurant, Bice, which came close to shuttering last year due to a labor dispute, looks like it will close its doors in January 2011.
According to Crain's, the 23-year-old restaurant filed a notice with the Department of Labor to lay off its 82 unionized employees by year's end, citing a 30 percent drop in revenues as the cause. But the union believes the layoffs threat is simply a tactic by the restaurant to get out of its labor contract, claiming that a new online reservation system has the restaurant regularly packed. A recent search for reservations using the system, however, found tables available at prime times on several days.
