Take heed, dessert lovers! Fork in the Road learns that Big Gay Ice Cream has teamed up with Robicelli's Bakery to transform its signature cone, the Salty Pimp, into cupcake form. The treat will be introduced as part of BGIC's one-year anniversary (happening on Labor Day) of the shop's permanent location in the East Village. It has never offered a cupcake before.

Doug Quint, co-owner of BGIC (one of our 10 favorite ice cream shops in the city), tells us the cupcake is a Robicelli's product. He and his partner, Bryan Petroff, teamed up with Robicelli's husband-and-wife duo Allison and Matt to develop the idea, but it was the bakers who executed the vision. "They are first-class bakers. They could turn meatloaf into an ice cream cone, and it would work," Quint jokes.

Much like the Salty Pimp cone, the cupcake will be a masterpiece of vanilla, dulce de leche, and chocolate: vanilla cake filled with dulce de leche, smeared with salted dulce de leche buttercream frosting, dipped in chocolate, and topped with sea salt flakes. Quint is quick to note that BGIC has "no interest" in becoming a full-on cupcake store. Although the above photo might suggest that it's being served on a cone, the shop is simply illustrating the Pimp's transformation.

Find the cupcake for $3.75 at the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop location at 125 East 7th Street starting this evening at 6 p.m. It will be available at least through Labor Day, and Petroff notes that they are "currently working on other fun ideas for our anniversary festivities."
