James A. Foley headed to Black Tree (131 Orchard Street, 212-533-4684)--where he once ate a revelatory watermelon sandwich--for last week's review, exploring the shop's philosophy on seasonality and locavorism. "The philosophy behind Black Tree harnesses the modern food zeitgeist: Keep it local and sustainable, while also making it beautiful, accessible, and most important, delicious," he writes. "But there is also a haunting, ephemeral quality to the sandwiches at Black Tree--they are not long for this world, and every time you have one could be the last."

Photographer Bradley Hawks captured the beauty of the food at this spot, and he brings back a stunning visual feast. Page through to see his work, then head on over to Foley's full review.
