Bonfire Chicken & Burgers Comes to Sixth Avenue, Grills Aflame
Unfortunately, no roasted marshmallows here
Looks like the Sixth Avenue branch of Joy Burger Bar is in for some competition, now that Bonfire Chicken & Burgers (404 Sixth Avenue, 212-228-2300) has taken over the old Qdoba location, located on the avenue between 8th and 9th streets. According to its menu, it offers "the planet's best grilled chicken and burgers." Hyperbole? Probably, but the shop is already doing brisk business.
Perhaps in an effort to nab some of the 8th Street BBQ's business, the charcoal broiled chicken comes with cornbread and sauce, ranging from about $4 for a quarter bird to $7 for a half to $12 for a whole. Burgers are customizable, beginning at $5.50 for regular beef and $2.75 for a mini beef. Turkey, lamb, chicken, and veggie are also available. Plus there's a "Greek corner" offering gyros, an ample selection of sides and finger foods, and a deli-esque dessert section. Everything is made to order.
The interior leaves a little to be desired, but at these prices, you can't really complain. We didn't have time to sample any of the patties, but this is surely a step up from Qdoba. And now the big question is what will happen next door in Bagel Buffet's (R.I.P.) old storefront?
