Bushwick Gets a New Cafe/Garden/Performance Space
Per BushwickBK, Flushing Farm--a cafe and performance space-- opened on Flushing Avenue this weekend. Owned by Jeff Lohn, a former member of the late-'70s No Wave band Theoretical Girls, the small space features a garden, patio, and a smidge of sand called Flushing Beach. Right now, the cafe, whose laid-back opening was, the blog notes, "distinctly non-New York in its feel," plans to sell coffee and homemade breads and jams. The cafe provides an oasis of sorts on an otherwise desolate block populated by industrial buildings and a few enervated-looking trees, but where coffee brews, new neighbors soon follow.
