CB 3 Residue: Koi Is a "Fine Dining Establishment"
At Community Board 3's full board hearing last night, Koi representatives were on hand to make their case yet again for the restaurant, whose liquor license application was resoundingly rejected at CB3's SLA committee meeting last Monday. They are not, they said, planning a 6,500-square-foot restaurant; much of the space will be for office and private use. Furthermore, customers will have to wait inside the restaurant, there will be no live music, and it will be a "fine dining establishment," not a club or bar.
"There is no place like Koi in the area at the present time; the neighborhood needs a fine-dining establishment," the restaurant's rep concluded. If the snorts and sparse applause that greeted the statement were any indication, the neighborhood wasn't entirely convinced.
