Chicken Thighs, Braised Greens, and Polenta at Vinegar Hill House, Dish #66
Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, the tasty countdown leading up to our "Best of 2012" issue. Tune in every day (weekends, too!) for a new dish from the Fork in the Road team.
They're always doing something nice with chicken at Vinegar Hill House, a farm-to-table bistro located in an obscure neighborhood on the south end of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. (Afterward, take a stroll and admire the early 19th-century houses and the remote lanes of the area.)
The pair of thighs are humongous, the skin as crisp as can be. The slightly bitter greens form a nice contrast to the sweetness of the flesh and the butteriness of the polenta. And there's a light gravy, too, like a moat around a poultry castle.
Nothing like sitting in the backyard on a summer evening and picking and eating the grapes that grow in profusion on vines above the tables.
