Cocktailians Beware: Chartreuse Will Now Cost a Prettier Penny
If your drink of choice happens to be a Bijou cocktail or a Last Word, you'll have to dig down deeper to quench your thirst. The price of Green Chartreuse -- a key ingredient in the aforementioned and other classic cocktails -- has shot up, reports the spirits blog Alcademics.
The unannounced increase of the monk-made liqueur "is national and will affect prices both at retail outlets and in bars," according to a Chartreuse broker. A bottle, once priced at $40-$50, will now cost about $7 more. The hike will affect both Green and Yellow versions of the liqueur, as well as VEP (premium) bottlings, but thankfully isn't permanent, said the source.
