Coffee Shop to Eat Up the Empire Diner
The question of what will happen to the Empire Diner has been answered: Once its lease expires on December 31, it will be taken over by the owners of Coffee Shop.
Chelsea Now reports that the Coffee Shop team plans to keep the space more or less the same, but to change its menu and name. According to Carolyn Benitez, one of Coffee Shop's owners, the new place will have a "Coffee Shop flavor." It's unclear what that means, exactly, as that descriptor brings to mind only famously photogenic waitresses serving overpriced Cobb salads. It's also unclear if Empire's management team, some of whom have been there for 30 years, will also get to taste the Coffee Shop flavor, or be left out in the cold with its bitter dregs.
