With the dog days of summer almost over, it's only a matter of time before you'll have to tuck away the flip-flops and Nantucket reds until next year. Say goodbye in style through this week's diverse dining events.
Corn Festival, multiple locations, Monday through Friday
We've hit the peak of the corn harvest, and the Tour de France restaurant group is paying homage to the vegetable this week: Each Tour de France eatery--including Marseille, Maison, and Pigalle, among others--is rolling out a special corn-focused menu. Tables will be decorated with freshly popped popcorn, and beverage director Aviram Turgeman will concoct a corn-based cocktail featuring homemade corn syrup for the celebration. Look for corn beignets, corn cakes, and corn risotto. Make reservations by calling any one of the nine Tour de France restaurants.
Natsu Matsuri, Takashi, 456 Hudson Street, Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Featuring an assortment of six grilled skewers--including a salted caramel s'more for dessert--this Japanese summer festival offers patrons a chance to take a break from their own barbecuing for at least one evening. Six grill stations will feature Takashi specialties like sweetbreads, cheek, and seasoned heart. Tickets are $60 and include beer and punch, an appetizer, five entree skewers, and one dessert skewer. Additional skewers can be purchased for $6 on the night of the event. Reserve your festival pass--and leave your vegan friends at home.
A Taste of Magic, Ben & Jack Steakhouse, 255 Fifth Avenue, Friday, 8 p.m.
While a magician can't make your check disappear, everything else about this dining and entertainment experience should leave you astounded. For $65, audience members receive a three-course meal along with table-side performances between dishes. Drinks from the cash bar are extra; this performance is suitable for both children and adults.
