December CB3 Agenda Suggests That the Sunshine Hotel Will Soon Serve Liquor
Community Board 3 has posted its December SLA meeting agenda, and it looks like the ground floor of the Bowery's Sunshine Hotel is moving closer to becoming yet another eating destination for the comfortable classes.
The agenda contains a new liquor license application for 241 Bowery, which is the address of the Sunshine Hotel, one of the street's last single-room occupancy hotels.
Back in June, Ewa Olsen and Christopher Chesnutt, the proprietors of Alta, announced their intention to turn the hotel's ground floor into a tapas restaurant. The CB3 agenda lists the applicant as "To Be Determined," so perhaps someone else has designs on the space -- but whatever it becomes, its owners will do their damnedest to make sure booze is on the menu.
Elsewhere, the East Village is set to get a couple of taquerias, courtesy of Sabor a Mexico Taqueria (at 160 First Avenue) and Taqueria East Village (at 104 Second Avenue). And despite a transfer application for the Mason Dixon space at 133 Essex Street, its owner, Rob Shamlian, insists that his three-year-old bar isn't going anywhere.
