Today's pick: The fish tacos ($3.95 each) at Pinche Taqueria (227 Mott Street, 212- 625-0090).

The little Pinche Taqueria has won a big following for its tacos, and its fish variation easily explains why. Segments of breaded and fried mahi mahi are placed in a griddled, slightly crisp tortilla, shrouded beneath shredded green cabbage and chopped onion, and finished off with a slick of pico de gallo and crema. While the fish itself is fine -- it's plenty fresh, but could use a bit more seasoning -- it's the tart, silky crema and refreshing, moderately spicy pico de gallo that really elevate the dish to a truly memorable level.

Although the tacos are on the small side, their flavors are substantial enough to satisfy a craving -- eat two, and you'll sail happily through a sunny afternoon.
