Dispatch From Chanterelle's Closing Beer Bash: A Bar and a Cafe to Come
Chanterelle closed its doors this past Sunday for renovations, and isn't expected to reopen before November. Owners Karen and David Waltuck welcomed guests for a Smokey Sunday of Blues, Beer & Bites, as they bid a teary farewell to patrons. After 30 years in business -- 20 of them spent at the Tribeca location -- the Waltucks are looking forward to spending time together, going out to shows, and eating out in some of the newer restaurants they've heard about in the city.
The renovations will largely surround a new bar, but Karen said this was an opportunity to implement the changes she'd always dreamed of. "I've always hated the bathrooms," she admitted coyly to her dinner companions on Sunday, as they nibbled tea-smoked duck and sipped local craft beer. "And the chandeliers aren't low enough."
In addition to a new bar and several menu changes, expect a little cafe area on the sidewalk outside the restaurant.
