Drink on the House and Ogle the NYC Skyline at SixtyFive's Summer Tasting Series
Cocktails and the NYC skyline at SixtyFive
Karen Tedesco for The Village Voice
Why is it you’ve cast nary a shadow near 30 Rockefeller Plaza since two years ago last Christmas? Is the memory of escorting family and friends to Top of the Rock, where you basically spent three hours of your life bodysurfing throngs of other families and friends from out of town, breathing their breath, mashing their toes with your grippy rubber soles, packing the elevator like a weary sardine, gasping for approximately five minutes over the panoramic spectacle of holiday lights, still too fresh?
That was then, this is now. And now, there’s a reason you should plan to head over to the Rock: You can breeze past long lines and take an elevator directly to SixtyFive, the bar adjacent to the Rainbow Room, on the 65th floor. Just five floors above is the observation deck, populated by tourists who paid $30 for the ride up.
But in the lounge at SixtyFive and on its outdoor dining terrace, New York City’s highest, you can take in the magnificent view of midtown Manhattan on a beautiful summer night and have a drink for free. Throughout the month of June, SixtyFive is offering Tasting Tuesdays, with complimentary tastings of a different featured spirit each week.
The tastings start at 5 p.m., when the bar opens, and continue until 7. It’s best to arrive on the earlier side — there's limited seating outdoors. Reservations aren’t required. For more info on SixtyFive, click here.
