Dunkin' to Soldier on in New York
An article in this morning's Daily News examined Dunkin' Donuts' ambitious growth plan to open "hundreds of stores" this year, despite a drastic slowdown in restaurant financing and numerous franchise operator bankruptcies.
So what does this mean for New York, already home to some 396 Dunkin' Donuts locations?
"We're certainly continuing to open new stores," says McCall Gosselin, a Dunkin' rep. As far as the number of stores projected to hit New York, "I can't say specifically. It depends on the franchisees. So in terms of target numbers, I don't have that to share."
Over the past five years, the chain has opened 244 stores throughout the city. So if the company's track record is anything to go by, financial woes may not do much to stem the munchkin tide.
