Free show: Strait Up Band, The Hall Brooklyn, 470 Driggs Ave., Brooklyn, Monday, 8 p.m.

Michael Psilakis' now open music venue, located next to his newly opened MP Taverna Brooklyn, is offering a free show this Monday along with daily happy hour specials from 5 pm to 8 pm such as half-priced draft drinks. The menu offers unique dishes like crab tzatziki and souvlaki sticks, while groups who want to eat a whole roasted animal to the tune of a trumpet can do so here too. The bar offers 28 craft beers and cocktails include the sparkling brown derby and Moscow mule. Future performances include a mix of genres like jazz, flamenco guitar, and comedy shows.

Oyster Trivia Night, Grey Lady, 77 Delancey Street, Tuesday, 8 pm

Instead of trying to win a free beer by memorizing Don Cheadle's IMDB page, bicker over bivalves at oyster trivia night. As part of sustainable seafood week, guests can form teams to take on tough questions focused on the magnificent mollusk. Tickets are $36 and include six oysters on the half shell, and proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Billion Oyster Project's restoration efforts. Score tickets for your team here.

Stir: My Broken Brain and the Meals that Brought Me Home Book Signing, BookCourt, 163 Court Street, Brooklyn, Wednesday, 7 pm

Moderated by Wall Street Journal book review editor Bari Weiss, this book signing and discussion focuses on the personal recovery of author Jessica Fechtor through cooking and recipes. The author, who suffered an aneurysm, lost her sense of smell and became partially blind. By focusing on the typical actions of cooking, Fechtor was able to regain her identity. Dessert and wine will be served; guests can register for the free event in advance here.

For Movie Lovers: Food in Film, 92 Street Y, 1395 Lexington Ave, Thursday, 7 p.m.

Do restaurant scenes in movies make you hungry? This interactive event not only showcases cinematic moments in food from classics like Ratatouille and Big Night, it covers backstage details about the scenes, with inspired bites and popcorn part of the experience too. Tickets are $45; secure them through the 92 Street Y web site.

Taste Asia 2015, Times Square, Broadway & 42nd-47th St., Friday through Sunday, 12 p.m.

Enjoy a variety of Asian inspired bites at this annual festival, which offers a variety of cooking demos and tastings. Chefs scheduled to make an appearance include Top Chef winner Hung Huynh and Hemant Mathur, with a dumpling eating contest and awards for best restaurants a few of the food focused activities scheduled. Additional entertainment includes traditional dance and musical performances, with plenty of complimentary bites encompassing Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indian cuisine.
