Eataly Opens Today at 4 P.M.
In a mere four hours, water will turn into wine, angels will weep, and the earth will tremble on its axis as Eataly opens its doors. New York's very first 50,000-square-foot Italian theme park will offer, among other things, olive oil, cheese, gelato, pastries, coffee, fresh fish, fresh pasta, fresh vegetables and a so-called vegetable butcher to prune them all for you, a cooking school, 12 restaurants, one rooftop beer garden, and, because more is always more, a microbrewery. Oscar Farinetti, one of the businessmen behind the complex on Fifth Avenue off Madison Square, expects "[a]t least four million a year, perhaps six," which puts the lines across the street at the Shake Shack in perspective.
