Open House Weekend, Multiple Locations, Friday through Sunday
Explore rooftop farms, commercial kitchens, and other food-focused treasures during New York City's open house weekend, which takes place over two days throughout the five boroughs. On Friday, manufacturers including Raaka chocolate and Italian ice maker Uncle Louie G's will open their doors for tours, while rooftop farms like Umbrella House Rooftop Garden will be open throughout the weekend. For food entrepreneurs, Hana Kitchens will detail the ins and outs of life at a food incubator. Eating Through Time: Food, Health and History Festival Featuring Jacques Pépin, The New York Academy of Medicine, 1216 Fifth Avenue, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Spend Saturday at a festival focused on the history of food, from pop culture to government policy, with ample time for tastings in between. The line up includes chefs Jacques Pépin and Tom Colicchio, with demonstrations on insect eating and aphrodisiacs also scheduled throughout the day. Taste of the Seaport, Front Street between Fulton & Peck Streets, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Grab a bite from one or seven of the 40 Financial District area restaurants, with proceeds from the festival going toward programs at local public schools. NYC Caribbean Food Festival, 300 Jay Street, Brooklyn, Saturday, 2 to 8 p.m.
Battle the chill in the air with spicy jerk chicken, bacchanal sauce, and more at this festival celebrating West Indian culture. The day's events will feature a selection of specialties like roti, goat, and ox, while a spice market will offer home chefs the chance to stock up on hard to find ingredients. Food on a Stick Takedown, Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, 514 Union Street, Brooklyn, Sunday, 12 p.m.
