Five Restaurants That Opened in NYC This Week
Savoury via Facebook

When one restaurant's doors close another restaurant's doors open in fast-paced New York City, and every Friday, we'll fill you in on what opened up around town this week. This week: a grilled pizza joint in Union Square, a modern twist on classic Indian food on the Upper West Side, and a not-so-secret bar above a fast food burger spot.

Alfredo 100, 7 East 54th Street, 212-688-1999

Alfredo 100 is a tribute to Alfredo, a Roman restaurant that opened 100 years ago in Rockefeller Center. Chef James Henderson is whipping up a variety of Italian dishes including the restaurant's signature dish, fettuccine alfredo. Alfredo 100 is open for lunch and dinner everyday.

Bar Bolonat, 611 Hudson Street, 212-390-1545

Einat Admony, the chef-owner of Balaboosta and Taïm, has opened Bar Bolonat, a modern Israeli restaurant. The chic West Village space offers items like turkey shawarma served in taco form and beef cheek tagine served with house-made couscous. The 20-seat downstairs area can be rented for private parties. Bar Bolonat is open for dinner Monday through Saturday.

Pizza Vinoteca, 15 Union Square West, 212-743-0605

New York has its fair share of pizza joints, but Pizza Vinoteca puts its own spin on the classic by offering grilled pizzas. The menu includes traditional flavors as well as a few more unique pizza options like the jowlciale with spicy chile pesto, fontina cheese, pistachios, and honey. Finish your meal with one of the many dessert options like bomboloni, warm Tuscan-style doughnuts, or a gelato panini, a sundae wrapped in vanilla cake.

Savoury, 489 Columbus Avenue, 212-875-1400

West Village Indian restaurant Surya closed a couple of years ago, but now a few dishes are being revived at Savoury. We talked to the Upper West Side Indian restaurant's Abishek Sharma earlier this week, and he told us that "most Indian restaurants in New York are very traditional. We wanted to create something very different. This is unique Indian cuisine with a modern twist." The menu includes Surya favorites like the lamb chop marinated in yogurt as well as more health-concious dishes like cauliflower in spicy tomato sauce.

The Garrett, 296 Bleecker Street, 212-675-6157

The bar above Bleecker Street's Five Guys burger shop is supposedly a secret, but it's one just about everyone is in on by now. A few months ago, the original clandestine watering hole Bleecker Heights Tavern closed, and now, a new not-so-secret bar has taken its place. The Garrett boasts 14 beers on draft as well as a variety of cocktails. After building up an appetite, you can order one of the five specialty items created by Five Guys for the bar.
