Instead of frantically searching for last minute getaways--or taking a crash course in barbecuing 101--you should focus instead on these food-related reasons to stick around the city for the long weekend, none of which involve TSA pat downs or rush hour traffic.

Tapas & Sangria Sampler Special, Andanada, 141 West 69th Street, Thursday through Sunday, 5 p.m.

While Labor Day is a reflection of the economic contributions of the American worker, it's always nice to remember the importance of Spain in helping shape our nation (or at least shape our culinary options for the past few decades). For $70 per couple, diners can pay homage to history with a selection of four tapas; Manuel Berganza's small plate creations include dishes like sauteed shrimp, croquetas, and Scorpion fish flan. A pitcher of red or white sangria is also included. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant directly.

Rub-A-Grub, Do or Dine, 1108 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, Sunday, 2 p.m.

You may have paired food with wine before, but food and music matches might be uncharted territory. This event features three different DJ sets along with three courses of food and drink--some of which might cause you to twerk. The freestyle session includes bloody marys, whole roasted pig, and performances by artists including Brooklyn's own DJ Spinna. Tickets start at $20.

Smoked Out Sunday/New Brunch Menu, Fatty Cue', 91 South Sixth Street, Brooklyn, Sunday and Monday, 12 p.m.

The hipster barbecue festivities continue at this weekly series, though this weekend, there's a new holiday twist. For $35, party-goers receive unlimited keg access, "kitchen sink" punch, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket tacos, and a great view of a whole pig being roasted. Pickle backs and cocktails will be available for cash purchase, and on Monday, those overcoming the labor of having a holiday hangover are invited to try new brunch items like maple grits and fermented sausage biscuits and gravy. The new brunch menu is will debut soon.

Labor Day Lunch Special, Recette, 328 West 12th Street, Monday, 11 a.m.

Chef Jesse Schenker's intimate West Village kitchen might be one of the best ways to forget the fact your long weekend is coming to an end. For Labor Day, the restaurant is offering a three-course lunch until 3 p.m., and on the menu, you'll find chilled corn soup, Berkshire pork belly, and s'mores. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant; lunch is $38 per person.

Labor Day Party, Maison Premiere, 298 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, Monday, 2 p.m.

Live music, oysters, and intimate drinking are the theme of this Labor Day party. Grab a seat early as it's first come, first served, with food specials like grilled lobster and crab gratin. A full dinner menu will be available beginning at 5 p.m., and if you're up for chasing the green fairy, new absinthe based cocktails will be emphasized.
