Former Sintir Space to Become (Another) Tapas Restaurant

Tapas on the horizon.
Tapas on the horizon.
Robert Sietsema

When Sintir opened on East 9th Street last spring, Our Man Sietsema wasn't particularly impressed by its boastful claims, flavorless meatballs, and aggressively upselling waitstaff. Apparently others weren't, either: The place closed earlier this month.

But where the ashes of one failed restaurant smolder, there is always another waiting to arise. And 424 East 9th Street is no exception: According to a reliable source, Sintir will become a tapas restaurant. Our source was doubtful of its prospects for success, noting that the huge space doesn't seem conducive to making money off of small plates. But then, it didn't seem conducive to making money off of Moroccan food, either.
