Frank Bruni in 'The New Yorker,' Tomorrow in Fork in the Road
's website runs a breezy interview with Frank Bruni today, which is, of course, the day of his last review. Looking back on the few downsides of being a restaurant critic, Bruni says:
People begin to see you as Food, food, food. They're constantly telling you what you should try; what they tried and didn't like. They tell you their Aunt Bertha's coming to town in three weeks and they'd like a Middle-Eastern restaurant within a four-square-block area, with entrees between $12 and $17. And sadly my mind doesn't work that way. It's flattering and sweet, but sometimes you can't live up to their expectations.
