From Slave-Training Cages to Bacchanal Brunches
Jeremiah's Vanishing New York plays a fun game this morning, pairing photos from Bagatelle's infamous "bacchanal brunch" with descriptions of Pork Night at the Lure, the Meatpacking District leather bar that used to occupy Bagatelle's West 13th Street home. The descriptions come courtesy of a 1999 Voice piece that Guy Trebay wrote about the festivities; JVNY's juxtaposition of photos of trendy young things preparing to suck down oversized bottles of Champagne with quotes like "This novelty insertion...follows a series of $5 per person spankings," is somewhat illuminating. The more things change....
