New Bottomless Brunch, the Late Late, 159 East Houston Street, Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m.
Summer weekends are a time for exploring beaches and new brunches, especially those that offer drink deals. The Late Late's new brunch menu offers Irish classics like black pudding, smoked salmon, and scotch eggs along with two bottomless drink packages. For $15, guests can opt for 90 minutes of bottomless mimosas and the bar's special "Barry's brunch punch," while for $25, guests can add unlimited house liquor and wine along with draft beer to the lineup.
The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook, Union Square Greenmarket, Union Square at East 17 Street, Saturday, 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
Tracey Medeiros, author of The Vermont Farm Table Cookbook and Dishing Up Vermont, has moved a bit closer to NYC with a collection of her latest recipes. Along with co-author Christy Colasurdo, Medeiros recently released The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook, and will be in Union Square cooking up a recipe from the book for interested home chefs. The event is free to attend, and books will be available for purchase and signing.
Whiskey and Lechón Whole Pig Dinner, Jimmy's No. 43, 43 East Seventh Street, Sunday, 5 p.m.
Village Voice spirits writer Brad Japhe co-hosts this whiskey-and-pork pairing, which shines the spotlight on several limited-release batches from New York State. The newly added Tito King's Kitchen is offering a three-course menu full of Thai-Filipino street food bites, with courses like roasted pig and a cheese plate accompanied by Japhe's pairings, with a special whiskey cocktail for dessert. Tickets are $75 and include all courses and paired whiskey tastings (additional pours available upon request); tickets can be purchased here.
National Ice Cream Day, multiple locations, Sunday
As if you need another reason to enjoy ice cream this summer, consider creating your own ice cream crawl. Blue Marble Ice Cream is offering customers who take a Lyft ride to either of its Brooklyn locations a free scoop of ice cream. Guests must show a Lyft receipt to receive the offer. Meanwhile, at Carvel locations across the city, guests receive a free soft-serve cone (any size, any flavor) as part of a buy one, get one free offer. For those who want to celebrate but avoid the guilt that comes along with this holiday, Tasca Chino has jasmine-matcha green tea popsicles available for $10. Additional intriguing locations to grab a few scoops include the chocolate maker Neuhaus and Queens classic Eddie's Sweet Shop.
Belgian National Day, Petite Abeille, 401 East 20th Street, Sunday, 12 p.m.
If the heat makes you thirsty for beer, consider entering a Belgian beer drinking contest in celebration of Petite Abeille's twentieth anniversary and Belgium's National Day. Whichever contestant drinks a half-liter of beer the fastest will be crowned Mr. Belgium for the day, while Miss Belgium can win her crown by downing the most waffles. Additionally, the restaurant is updating its logo and is offering $1,000 and a lifetime free brunch pass for any Petite Abeille location in New York City.
