Start your (hopefully) four-day workweek with breakfast tacos or take a mid-week break at a crab boil. These festivities are just a couple of this week's five best food-focused events.
El Original, 735 Tenth Avenue, Monday, 7 a.m.
El Original is introducing a new breakfast menu featuring nine types of breakfast tacos. Fillings include everything from egg and cheese to the more elaborate Frito pie (eggs, chili, Fritos, cheese). Additional morning starters include huevos rancheros, avocado tostadas, and chilaquiles. After Memorial Day, breakfast will be available daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Oyster Happy Hour, Irvington, 201 Park Avenue South, Tuesday, 5 p.m.
If you're looking to raid a raw bar without breaking the bank, Irvington recently debuted a new oyster happy hour. The restaurant is offering dollar oysters from 5 to 7 p.m. daily. In addition to standard oyster accompaniments like sparkling wine, the bar offers those looking for healthier alternatives juice cocktails courtesy of Liquiteria.
Dassara Ramen & AquaBoil Pop Up Opening, Dassara Ramen, 271 Smith Street, Brooklyn, Wednesday, 5 p.m.
Starting this Wednesday and running through Labor Day, Dassara is teaming with local seafood purveyor Aqua Best to offer a Japanese-Creole-inspired seafood boil. Menu items will focus on an ever-changing selection of shellfish prepared with a variety of ingredients, like yuzu citrus and ginger, among other spices. Guests who wish to avoid getting their hands dirty are in luck: Gloves are available upon request.
Free Drink and Happy Hour Deals, A.W.O.L. Eatery, 336 Graham Avenue, Brooklyn, Thursday, 5 p.m.
Looking to score a free drink? Check in on social media at this farm-to-table spot any Thursday and snag a free beer, sake shot, or glass of wine. The bar also offers a happy hour that includes $3 Mexicali and Founders All Day IPA along with food specials. The restaurant's menu focuses on farm-fresh plates such as tempura beef tacos and grilled corn off the cob. Happy hour runs daily from 5 to 7 p.m.
Distilled Nation: Old Tom Gin, QNS Collective, 36-27 36th Street, Queens, Friday, 7 p.m.
