Gray's Papaya Raises Prices, Asks Customers Not to 'Hate Us'
When we last broached the subject of Gray's Papaya, it was to bemoan their somewhat lackluster dollar slice. Now it looks like that slice may no longer be only a buck, as rising global food prices have touched even Gray's.
The West Side Rag reports that the Gray's up on 72nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue has posted a sign informing its customers of the imminent price hike. "We are getting killed by the galloping inflation in food costs," it reads. "Unlike politicians we cannot raise our debt ceiling and are forced to raise our very reasonable prices. Please don't hate us."
There's no word on when the price hikes will take effect, but we're guessing it won't instill the same outrage as a $5 bottle of Mexican coke.
