Grilled Veggies and Ricotta Pizza From Carmine's Pizzeria in Brooklyn, Dish #60
Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, the tasty countdown leading up to our "Best of 2012" issue. Tune in every day (weekends, too!) for a new dish from the Fork in the Road team.
The above photo doesn't really do this pie justice, because -- let's be honest here -- it kind of looks gross. But believe me, its gloppy mess of ricotta and grilled veggies on a thin, crunchy crust is a messy delight.
Carmine's is an old pizzeria off the Graham Avenue L stop that has been around for about 30 years. It's the kind of quintessential New York spot that embodies every cliché out-of-towners might have about Brooklyn. There's Mafia photos on the wall, Yankee memorabilia everywhere, and a few fast-speaking guys behind the counter. There are two locations -- the other over on Union in Williamsburg -- and they specialize in a variety of obscene (and delicious) pies. Check out their website for a full history.
