Happy National Taco Day! Find NYC's Best Tacos
It's National Taco Day, apparently! While New York City might not be Los Angeles when it comes to scoring premium carne asada off the street, there are still lots of excellent taco options to try. Plenty of new spots have opened since we listed the 10 Best Tacos in New York a couple of years ago, with many of them, including Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos in Bushwick and Pinche Taqueria in Nolita, still around to sling hot carnitas to hungry New Yorkers. So, what are some of the best newcomers?
Rockaway Taco's crispy fish tacos have been a big hit, while upscale taqueria Cascabel has been drawing crowds in the taco-less wilds of the Upper East Side for a few years now. The latest taco joint to draw salsa picante levels of buzz? That would be the cumbersomely named Cafe de La Esquina at Wythe Diner, the new Williamsburg spot helmed by ex-Elettaria toque Akhtar Nawab.
Looking for even more great tacos? You might want to take a dining tour through Sunset Park, Brooklyn's best neighborhood for Mexican, Chinese, and Vietnamese food. Those hungry for a deal (of sorts) can head down to Los Feliz on the Lower East Side, which, according to The Feast, is offering three tacos stuffed with things like scallops and cactus tonight for $14.
Sadly, only those in the culinary wonderlands of Fresno and Bakersfield can sample the ultimate standard-bearer of fine Mexican cuisine -- the Doritos Loco Taco, a Taco Bell taco with a crispy shell made out of, yes, Doritos.
