Have a Cocktail and Donate to Action Against Hunger
Hunger affects nearly 1 billion people on our planet, and deadly acute malnutrition affects 55 million children worldwide. Action Against Hunger works to feed the many people around the world struggling to find the next meal, and now you can help them further their cause and have a drink while you're at it. Ultimat Vodka has partnered up with Action Against Hunger (a.k.a. ACF International) to spread awareness and raise funds through--what else?--cocktails.
According to Greg Cohen of Patrón Spirits, Ultimat Vodka--a triple-distilled Polish vodka--has been a supporter of ACF since Ed Blinn, one of the first employees of Patrón, visited Kenya. There, he witnessed widespread malnutrition, as well as the effective work carried out by ACF to remedy it. From that moment on, Ultimat committed to ACF to help further its mission, and they've created the Ultimat Lemon-Aid Stand to help support the partnership.
The easiest way to support the cause is to text the word "LEMONAID" to 50555 any day between now and August 20 (National Lemonade Day). That sends $5 to Action Against Hunger, which does considerable good: One dollar is all it takes to provide a child with a day of therapeutic nutrition treatment, since each packet of Ready to Use Food costs roughly 33 cents, and each child needs about three packs a day. So a $5 donation would equate to 5 days of treatment, and it'd take just nine donations of $5 to cover a full treatment regimen for a child (which is roughly 45 days). Put more dramatically, $45 saves a life.
In addition, every Friday through August 20, New Yorkers can head out to Truman's Gentleman's Groomers for a haircut, where 10 percent of the bill goes to ACF. Bonus: You'll get a complimentary service upgrade and an Ultimat Lemon-AID cocktail along with your new 'do.
The Ultimat Lemon-Aid Stand also teamed up with an all-star list of mixologists--including Walter Easterbrook, James Menite, Danny Neff, Igor Zukowiec, Julie Williams, and Naomi Schimek--to kick off this event, and each bartender created a lemonade-themed cocktail for the event. Vaccari Blues by Danny Neff
1 1/2 oz. Ultimat Vodka 1/2 oz. Galliano 1/2 oz. Simple Syrup 1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice 3/4 oz. Lemon Juice 4-5 Mint Leaves Champagne top
Combine Galliano, simple syrup, pineapple, lemon, vodka, and mint into a mixing glass, add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a coupe and top with Champagne.
Chelsea Fizz by Walter Easterbrook
1 1/2 oz. Ultimat Vodka 3/4 oz. Lemon Juice 1/2 oz. Agave Nectar Grated Ginger 3 Strawberries
Combine all ingredients over ice in a mixing glass. Shake and strain into a tall glass. Top with seltzer. Garnish with a strawberry.
